
As of July 1, 2017, many employers are now having to pay a higher minimum wage in several California cities including Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and the states of Maryland and Oregon.
Missouri has bucked the trend by lowering the recent minimum wage increase in St. Louis, which went from $7 to $10 two months ago and will once again be $7 per hour on August 28, 2017.

National Minimum Wage Changes
The federal minimum wage has not changed since increasing nearly 10% to $7.25 in 2009, so cities and states and continue to enact minimum wage increases – 30 states in all at the time of writing.

Avoiding the Carl's Jr. Scenario
Not keeping up with minimum wage increases can be costly.
As reported last week, the City of Los Angeles has filed a $1.4 million lawsuit accusing the fast food chain, Carl's Jr., for allegedly paying 37 employees across seven locations below the current $10.50 per hour minimum wage for >25 employees.
